Summertime!

I thought this would be an appropriate time to post this track because of its title - what with the snow and freezing in Europe and all, found it quite ironic! At least we still warm here in South Africa!

Anyway, I've been listening to this track for a while now, and to be honest didn't really dig it when I heard it to begin with. But it grew on me. Fast. So now I do dig it, a lot!

Its the Tek One (a relatively new dubstep duo out of the UK) remix of a rock-ish track by Crystal Fighters... It kind of meshes its own subgenre of dubstep - being heavy and filthy like Datisk, Excision and Skrillex, but somehow managing to be a lot more melodic and not as dark (if that even makes any sense!).  Really like the bassline in this, so give it a listen.
And just for nice-ness, here's the link:

Hardware Review: Aerial7 Tank Headphones

Heres a little review of a set of cans I checked out recently, and granted they're not the newest, top-of-the-range headphones on the market (in fact, very far from it), but I was still so impressed by their performance that i decided to crack open the tag of "review" on this blog with a quickie on these bad boys...

Features

  • External(obviously) Earcups with 57mm drivers
  • 180° Upwards and 90° sideways swiveling joints
  • Ultra-thick ear-cushions
  • Wired, including various adapters and an extendable coil (telephone-style), cord

Detailed Specs
  • Response Bandwidth 5-20000 Hz
  • Sensitivity 108 dB
  • Impedance 64Ohm
  • Diaphragm 2.2"

Review
On first glance (bearing in mind that I checked out a white colour-themed Tank, and not a multi-coloured one like in the picture), the Tank is clearly a sturdy, well designed piece of equipment, geared towards DJs and probably a younger age-group. The fit is snug and, thanks to the very adjustable sizing, is adapted and fitted to ones head easily. Rotating cups, and swivel joints mean that the cans are perfect for PFL (Pre-Fade Listening) of one track while another is playing, and also mean that the headphones can be neatly folded and easily stored. The actual performance of the headphones in terms of sound quality is extremely impressive, however leaves a little to be desired in the mid-range frequencies. The various screw-on adapters and cable options mean that performance for listening, DJing, and even VoIP (eg. Skype) or cellphone use is easily optimized. The pricing for these guys is (if you ask me) a huge bargain, considering how much you get - the 'phones, a 3.5mm-1/4" adapter, coiled extension cord, VoIP cord (which has a mini-mic on it), and a small bag; the impressive performance and durability of the headphones themselves, and their overall capabilities.
